PRACTICE

The Ogopogo summer practice schedule runs Monday through Friday, and varies between morning and evening practices. The time at which a swimmer will practice is determined by their skill level. In the month of April, Ogopogo coaches will assess the swimmers ability and place them in the appropriate practice groups. The practice groups are generally defined as follows:

Group A: Senior Swimmers who are proficient in all strokes and have the stregth/stamina to practice at a fast pace, working mostly on stamina and speed technique.

Group B: Junior or Senior swimmers who are comfortable in all strokes and have the ability to practice at a semi-fast pace, working on both technique and stamina.

Group C: Junior Swimmers who are comfortable in the core strokes - freestyle and backstroke - and have the core motor skills to swim butterfly and breaststroke. Practice time is devoted to technique first then stamina.

Group D: Junior Swimmers who are learning proper technique in all strokes. By group D, they should have the ability to swim comfortably in freestyle and backstroke. Practice time is devoted to technique

Ogies: The youngest swimmers who are just learning to swim. To be an Ogie, swimmers must be able to swim 25m (one pool length) without touching bottom. How they swim the 25m does not matter. Practice time is devoted to learning the basics.

The Ogopogo Summer Swim Club attempts to provide as much flexibility and opportunity as possible - for all groups. Please keep in mind that we must work within the schedule at the H2O Center. Download the documents below to see what the upcoming summer practice schedule looks like:
